The South-East Regional Authority has been in existence since 1994 and in that time has made a significant contribution as a regional tier of government in Ireland and has been to the forefront in identifying, articulating and addressing the deficiencies, development needs and investment priorities of the Region.

The South-East Regional Authority, comprising 35 elected members nominated by the city council and the five county councils in the region, is a statutory body that covers counties Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford City, Waterford County and Wexford.
