Carlow Councillor Elected Chair of Regional Authority for 2011-2012

Cllr. Willie Quinn (Labour) from Borris, County Carlow, has been elected Cathaoirleach of the South-East Regional Authority for the coming year.  He succeeds Waterford City Councillor, John Cummins (FG) in the positon.  Cllr. Marie Fitzpatrick (Labour), a member of Kilkenny County Council, has been elected Leas-chathaoirleach.

Cllr. Quinn has been a member of Carlow County Council since 2007.  He is the Chair of the council’s Housing Strategic Policy Committee and a member of its Transport SPC.  He is also a member of the County Carlow Development Partnership Board.

“ I look forward to guiding the work of the Regional Authority in my role as Cathaoirleach over the coming year.  The South-East Region faces many challenges at this time and the Regional Authority has a key role in providing the vision and leadership to ensure that the region’s development needs and priorities are addressed”, Cllr. Quinn stated following his election.
